Queer Awareness Training Program

In the process of creating Prisma Group CIC, we noticed that many of the professionals working with LGBTQ+ young people lacked some knowledge regarding the LGBTQ+ community unless they were part of it.

After this discovery, we asked a group of young people at the Bucks Youth Summit 2023 to discuss the knowledge gaps they feel their school and teachers had. The results of this discussion proved an overwhelming need for a training program covering all of these topics…. so we started to develop our Queer Awareness training program!

Training Contents

In the discussion, we noticed there were three overall themes. These were:

  • Identity
  • Culture
  • Discrimination

In addition to these, the young people had identified numerous instances were they felt teachers could have handled the situation better. So, We added a professional advice section detailing strategies underpinned by established good practice.

Guidance Pack

During the development of the training, we identified a range of resources that we felt were necessary for all teachers to have and created a guidance pack. The guidance pack contains...

Queer Awareness Pocket Guide

The Queer Awareness pocket guide was comissioned by Prisma to summarise the contents of the main Queer Awareness training resources to allow clients to fully engage in each session rather than taking notes.

These pocket guides were written by our Head of Operations, Ry, and illustrated by local queer artist, Eliott Bulpett. They are only avaliable with a purchase of the Queer Awareness training however.

Pocket Guide of LGBTQIA+ Identities

The Pocket Guide to LGBTQIA+ identities was created by the Manchester based, LGBTQ+ and autistic owned business Rainbow & Co. The booklet contains 24 pages spanning 40 sexual orientations and gender identities, each explained in easy to understand language.

This product is included in the guidance pack at no extra charge and is avaliable separately at both the Prisma and Rainbow & Co. online stores.

Pronoun Badges

We ask each person on the training course to tell us their pronouns, after we have explained what pronouns are. Once we know what pronouns the person uses, we select the relevant badge from our existing inventory.

In addition to the above, each person is given an official certificate of achievement after a securing a pass mark of 75% on the knowledge quiz at the end of the course.

Booking the Training

The training and the guidance pack are avaliable for £10 per person, with a minimum requirement of 5 people per session. Each session will be delivered by a member of staff or volunteer from Prisma Group CIC and will be delivered at the premises of the client organisation or even online if needed.

If an organisation wishes for more than 20 people to be trained , we will reduce the cost per person to fit your budget. To book onto the course, please send an email enquiring to our head of operations, Ry, at the link below.
